Code 0004: Resolution of images under 270ppi
❗ Errors
- Resolution of color and grayscale images is lower than 270 pixels per inch.
What is the problem?
Digital images are made up of hundreds of thousands of pixels. When a print file doesn’t contain enough pixels per inch (ppi)—also known as dpi—the image quality suffers. The result can look jagged, pixelated, or blurry.
This is why you can’t simply use images from the internet and expect them to print well. Most images intended for screens have resolutions between 75ppi and 100ppi. While these look fine on a monitor, they print poorly.
A resolution of 300ppi (pixels per inch) is the standard for professional-quality printing. At this level, prints appear sharp and clean, even up close. Some designers choose higher resolutions like 600ppi or 1200ppi, but this increases file size significantly. 300ppi strikes the ideal balance between image quality and file manageability.
Images slightly below this threshold—between 270ppi and 300ppi—are usually acceptable and will only trigger a system warning. However, images below 270ppi will print poorly and result in a system error.
How do I fix it?
We recommend starting with the templates generated for you in Launch Lab, as they’re already set to the correct resolution. If you create your artwork directly within these templates, you’re unlikely to encounter resolution issues.
If you’re using your own files, check the image resolution in your design software. In Photoshop, for example, go to the Image menu, select Image Size, and look for the value next to Resolution.
Once you’ve confirmed that all elements in your file are at 300dpi or higher, re-export and upload the updated file to Launch Lab.
Importing artwork into your design file
It'simportant to know that every part of your design file has to be 300ppi or more—even artwork you import from elsewhere.
If you’re adding elements created by someone else—such as an artist—open the artwork separately first to check its resolution. If it’s 300ppi or more, it’s safe to import. If it’s lower, reach out to the artist or original source and request a higher-resolution version.
Once you’ve ensured all parts of your file have a resolution of at least 300dpi, re-export and re-upload your file.
