Code 0018: Artwork may not have sufficient bleed
⚠️ Warnings
- Artwork may not have sufficient bleed.
What is the problem?
Printed artwork often runs right to the edge of the final product - whether it’s a card, box, or other component. This effect, known as bleed, avoids unwanted white borders by allowing the artwork to extend beyond the trim area.
To achieve this, the item is printed on an oversized sheet, and the artwork must extend 3mm beyond the dieline or trim edge. This extra area is known as the bleed, and it is trimmed off after printing to create a clean, edge-to-edge finish.
If your artwork doesn’t include sufficient bleed, the final product may print with unwanted white gaps at the edges - this happens when the artwork doesn’t reach far enough beyond the cut line.
How do I fix it?
If you’ve set up your artwork using a Launch Lab template, your file should already include a dielines layer on top of your artwork. This layer helps ensure your file is correctly prepared for print. It includes:
Cut lines – where the artwork will be cut
Fold lines – where the product will be folded (if applicable)
Bleed lines – showing how far artwork should extend beyond the trim
Margin lines – helping you keep important text or images away from the edge
? Tips
- PDF templates include the correct size, resolution, and dielines. They’re ideal if you’re unsure about any aspect of artwork setup, as they take care of all the technical details for you.
- If you just need to check the bleed on an existing finished file, consider using a PNG template instead. These include only the dielines and are easy to overlay on your artwork to verify alignment.
